As part of our role overseeing and shaping the whole transport network, across every mode, in Tyne and Wear we are involved in various projects at the moment.

These include leading the delivery of the ‘Second Tyne Tunnel’ and overseeing the ‘Metro: all change’ modernisation programme.  Between them these projects represent the biggest inward investment in transport infrastructure ever achieved in Tyne and Wear.

We are also working with partners to promote smart ticketing across all public transport in North East England (including areas outside Tyne and Wear).

Additionally the Tyne and Wear ITA is overseeing the delivery of sustainable transport initiatives across the conurbation. These include:

*  the Schools Go Smarter programme aimed at promoting sustainable travel to and from schools across Tyne and Wear; and

*  the proposed Go Smarter to Work programme, primarily aimed at reducing congestion on the A1 Western Bypass (you can access our proposals by clicking the link below.
